Montgomery County, MD Building Energy Performance Standards
Reduce your building’s carbon footprint
Montgomery County, MD declared a climate emergency in late 2017 to accelerate the community’s goal to be climate neutral by 2035. And with buildings accounting for over 50% of greenhouse gas emissions in the county, Montgomery County officials developed a plan to help businesses report on their energy-saving initiatives. This plan is known as Montgomery County, Maryland’s Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS).
What is BEPS?
The Building Energy Performance Standards outlined by Montgomery County, Maryland sets the minimum energy performance standards for buildings covered in the law. And, when business owners take steps to meet the BEPS benchmarks, they are able to report on their progress toward carbon neutrality.
In its current phase, the BEPS law covers all commercial buildings that are larger than 50,000 square feet. To learn more about Montgomery County Building Energy Performance Standards, click here.
